The holiday season has truly arrived, and the Vance-Granville Community College Community Band is once again gearing up to delight audiences with their annual Holiday Concert. This much-anticipated event holds a special place in the hearts of both the band members and the community.

An Invitation to Holiday Cheer

This year's Holiday Concert will take place on Monday, Dec. 16, at the magnificent McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center in downtown Henderson. The concert is set to commence at 7:30 p.m. and will last approximately an hour, providing a perfect evening of musical entertainment. And the best part? Admission is free for all!

Music That Warms the Heart

Band Director Brian Miller humorously remarks, "There's nothing quite like a big, old-timey band concert." The Vance-Granville Band is excited to share their Winter Concert in the very heart of historic downtown Henderson. This free event will feature a delightful mix of Christmas music, band classics, popular tunes, and classical compositions. Concertgoers can look forward to hearing festive favorites such as "Feliz Navidad" and "Good King Wenceslas." Alongside these, they will also be treated to music from the talented blockbuster soundtrack composer Michael Giacchino. Some songs will be performed by the entire 39-piece band, creating a grand and immersive musical experience. Other pieces will showcase the skills of just a few talented musicians, adding a touch of variety and individuality to the concert.The Fine Arts department chair at the college, Betsy Henderson, wholeheartedly echoes Brian Miller's invitation to the community. She says, "This concert has become a tradition that kicks off my holiday season every year. It's a truly lovely way to spend an evening, and I urge everyone to come and get in the holiday spirit with me!"

A Diverse Band of Musicians

Directed by Brian D. Miller of Louisburg, the VGCC Community Band is a diverse group that combines VGCC students and non-student adult community members. This ensemble encompasses a wide range of abilities and experiences, making it a truly unique musical collective. Participants come from the college's four-county service area and even from as far away as Virginia. Every Monday evening, they gather at the College's Main Campus Civic Center in Henderson to rehearse. And the best part? There is no membership fee for those who wish to participate.
